Open for Business! ‘Lacac Pe Lony’ Maize Mill Launches in Gulu

GULU, NORTHERN UGANDA – Today marks a joyous and significant milestone! After months of dedicated planning, intensive training, adaptive pivoting, and collaborative construction, the RFW Academy for Social Transformation (AST) pilot group proudly launched their enterprise: the Lacac Pe Lony (“Patience Pays”) maize mill. The launch, celebrated earlier today with community members, local leaders, and the RFW team, was filled with excitement and pride.

The whirring sound of the brand-new milling machine isn’t just noise; it’s the powerful sound of community-driven progress. It signifies the culmination of a journey fueled by resilience and partnership. This venture, born from the AST process, is already beginning to make a tangible difference.

The Lacac Pe Lony mill represents:
Local Economic Opportunity: Creating vital income through estimated direct and indirect employment opportunities for community members (7 direct roles and supporting approx. 13 businesses across the community).
Saved Resources for Families: Significantly reducing the time, effort, and expense families previously incurred traveling long distances for milling services.
Community Empowerment: A community identifying its own needs and taking charge of its economic destiny through sustainable enterprise.

This successful launch vividly demonstrates the multi-layered impact of RFW’s holistic approach – nurturing inner resilience alongside practical entrepreneurial skills within a framework of community ownership and co-investment. The journey of the Lacac Pe Lony group truly embodies its name, proving that with patience, hard work, and support, transformative change is possible.
