GULU, NORTHERN UGANDA – Building upon the crucial insights gained during our recent foundational listening phase, RFW is thrilled to announce that the first Academy for Social Transformation (AST) training program officially commenced this week in Gulu. A dynamic cohort of 53 women and youth has embarked on this intensive journey.
The AST curriculum is uniquely designed, weaving together practical business development skills – including market analysis, financial literacy, and strategic planning – with essential mindfulness practices. Our goal is twofold: to equip participants with the tools to build sustainable ventures and to cultivate the inner resilience vital for navigating the pressures of entrepreneurship. They are learning not only how to run a business but also how to manage emotions effectively, foster strong group communication, and make grounded decisions, even when faced with challenges.
Early engagement is already evident. As participants begin applying their learning to identify local challenges they can address, one group has shown initiative by exploring a venture to tackle deforestation. Their initial concept involves producing fuel briquettes from readily available biomass, offering a sustainable alternative to charcoal – a clear sign of their awareness and drive to create community-focused solutions. RFW facilitators are now guiding the cohort through this exciting phase of learning and initial venture ideation.
